MANAGEMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING ACTIVITIES AT FOREIGN LANGUAGE CENTERS IN CAN THO CITY, VIETNAM

Nguyen Chuc Ly, Thai Cong Dan, Nguyen My Loan

Abstract

This study investigates the management of English language teaching (ELT) activities at foreign language centers in Tan An Ward, Can Tho City, focusing on VSTEP and IELTS programs. Using questionnaires and interviews with 12 managers and 29 teachers across four centers, the research assesses planning, organization, direction, and evaluation of teaching. Findings show strengths in outcome-oriented curriculum, standardized materials, and exam-focused instruction, but limitations in professional development, technology integration, formative assessment, and parent-learner coordination. The study proposes four solutions: enhancing teacher training, standardizing assessment, developing teaching portfolios and peer observation, and diversifying delivery through blended learning. These solutions are considered necessary and feasible. The research contributes a practical framework for improving ELT management and ensuring committed learning outcomes in non-public educational settings.
