ACCEPTANCE AND SUCCESS OF BLOCKCHAIN-BASED PAYROLL INFORMATION SYSTEMS: A SOCIO-TECHNICAL PERSPECTIVE

Jeremiah Uyane Ishaya

Abstract

This study examines the acceptance and implementation success of a blockchain-based payroll information system among work-from-home professionals in the ICT, BPO, and creative industries in Baguio City, Philippines. Grounded in Social Cognitive Theory and Socio-Technical Systems Theory, the study employed a descriptive-correlational design with 384 respondents selected via convenience sampling. System acceptance was assessed across personal, behavioral, and environmental dimensions, while implementation success was evaluated through social and technical subsystems. Results indicate high levels of both system acceptance (WM = 3.03) and system success (WM = 3.14). A strong positive correlation (r = 0.742, p < 0.01) was found between acceptance and implementation success, suggesting that user readiness and perceptions significantly influence system performance outcomes. Environmental factors emerged as the strongest acceptance predictor, while the social subsystem scored highest for system success. These findings contribute to information systems literature by demonstrating that blockchain payroll adoption in remote work contexts depends on the joint optimization of human and technical factors. The findings suggest that policymakers should prioritize clear regulatory frameworks and digital finance literacy programs to strengthen user acceptance, while system developers should integrate collaborative features alongside technical reliability to optimize implementation success. Organizations managing distributed workforces can leverage these results by investing in environmental support structures, such as training programs, co-worker peer networks, and accessible IT assistance, that reinforce both user confidence and sustained system engagement.
