INVESTIGATING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CREATIVITY AND INTELLIGENCE AMONG DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS

Abstract

The relationship between creativity and intelligence has been extensively investigated, but without consensus. As a contribution to this discussion, the study examined the relationship between the constructs in different age groups. In study 1, 151 elementary school students aged 6 to 13 years took the Children's Figural Creativity Test (TCFI) and the Children's Nonverbal Reasoning Test (TNVRI). Among the total scores on the two instruments, a significant but weak correlation was found (rs = 0.252), with a small effect size, although other significant correlations were found between specific test factors. As part of study 2, 184 university students aged 20 to 35 years responded to the Figural Creativity Test Adolescent and Adult Version (TCF-AA) and the Battery of Reasoning Tests (BPR-5). Results revealed no significant correlation between the total scores of the instruments, with weak correlations observed between specific measures. According to the results, relationships between the constructs differ based on age and instrument used, not being significant in adults and significant in children. This supports the contention that creativity and intelligence, while related, are distinct concepts.
