The present research is the study of emotional competence of the higher secondary school students of the Shimla district in Himachal Pradesh. This study has been undertaken to study the difference between the emotional competences of the socially deprived school students and non-deprived school students. The government schools have been selected for the purpose of the present research. A sample of 200 girls and boys students has been selected for the purpose of the present study. The results of the study exhibit that socially deprived students have poorer emotional competence as compare to non-deprived students. This poor emotional competence has a negative impact on academic achievement of the scheduled caste students as compared to the non-scheduled caste students.
The present study has been carried out to assess the interaction effect of sex, self-concept and self-esteem on Emotional Intelligence on a sample of 125 scheduled caste teacher trainees both male (67) and female (58) by applying a (2x2x2) three ways factorial design. The data has been collected with the help of Self-Concept Questionnaire (Saraswat, 1984), Self-Esteem Inventory (Part-1) (Prasad and Thakur, 1977) and Emotional Intelligence Scale (Kumar, 2000). It has been revealed that the main effect of self-esteem is found to be significant whereas the main effects of sex and self –concept as well as the various interaction are found to be non significant. However, the present study suggests about educational implication for the community.

The role of teachers and schools are changing, and so are expectations about them: teachers are asked to teach in increasingly multicultural class rooms, integrate students with special needs, use ICT for teaching effectively, engage in evaluation and accountability process, and involve parents in school. Teaching is a complex process. It requires how a teacher controls his emotions. Those teachers who control their emotion in the class room are better teachers. These teachers are intelligent in solving various problems of the school as well as of surrounding. They know better about their abilities, potential and capabilities.
