This study concerns determining the effective factors related to the communication skills of basic sciences university teachers. Therefore, a conceptual model of communication skill has been devised by reviewing the related literature, as point of departure. Next, this model was given to an expert panel to evaluate its content validity. Then the model was transformed into a translated Persian questionnaire. After that, it was given to the subjects of the study, around 234, university teachers. Once the reliability of the study was confirmed by the obtained responses, they were fed into SPSS software in order to run Explanatory Factor Analysis. To enclose, it has been explained that there were 2 factors entitled as verbal and visual. The first one comprised 9 variables and the second one is consisted of 6 variables.
The aim of this study is to determine the perceptions and expectations of preservice teachers on the instructors' communication skills. This study is a descriptive research; and because of its aim and sub-aims, it is designed as a survey model. In this study, as for sampling, cluster sampling method and member sampling method were used to select the participants. A total of 524 students made the sample of the research. In order to collect data for this study, the inventory namely "The Measurement Inventory of Instructors' Communicational Attitudes (MIICA)" was used. In descriptive analysis; mean, frequency, median, standard variation, minimum and maximum values were calculated. For the homogenous and normal distributions, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Levene's Variance Homogenous tests were examined. In the situations in which normality and homogeneity were supplied; for the comparisons of variables, t-test for independent groups was used. As for the other situations, Mann Whithey U test was used. The comparisons consisting of more than two variables were calculated as Kruskal Wallis test. Accordingly, in order to determine the relationship between the perception and the expectation, coefficient of Spearman Brown Grade Differences Correlation was calculated. In this study, it is determined that both the perceptions and the expectations of the students in Faculty of Education on the instructors' communicational skills are in a high level. There is not mean difference in terms of gender for the students' perceptions; however, there is a mean difference on the students' departments and grades. Communication Skills and Its Influence on Teacher EffectivenessThis study examined the relationship between communication skills and teacher effectiveness in secondary schools in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The study used a survey-type descriptive research design. All teachers and principals of public secondary schools in Ekiti State, Nigeria, were included in the population. The sample for the study was 330 respondents which comprised 300 students and 30 principals selected from 30 secondary schools through simple random sampling technique. The study employed two self-designed questionnaires, the "Communication Skills Questionnaire" (CSQ) and the "Teacher Effectiveness Questionnaire" (TEQ). The instruments were examined for reliability and confirmed by research specialists. The test-retest technique yielded reliability values of 0.78 and 0.73. Inferential statistics were used to analyse the data collected. The t-test and ANOVA were used to examine the three hypotheses. These hypotheses were evaluated at a significance level of 0.05. There was a relationship between communication skills and teacher effectiveness in the classroom according to the data. There was a considerable disparity in communication abilities between male and female teachers according to the study. The study further revealed that teachers' teaching experience had no significant influence on communication skills. According to the conclusions of the study, it was advised, among other things, that teachers should continuously enhance their skills of communication in order to improve the teaching-learning processes.
Individuals can express themselves well and understand the others better only by having communication skills. In the future, there will be a need for student teachers who have good communication skills and who can communicate well, as their profession requires. In this developing world, perceptions, behaviours and relations of individuals have constantly been changing. In the light of all these reasons, what type of communication skills that today’s student teachers have should be determined and new and contemporary measurement instruments should be developed for this purpose. From this point of view, the major aim of this study was to develop a reliable and valid communication skills scale (CSS) that will help to determine the extent of student teachers’ communication skills. A total of 1204 student teachers studying in various departments of a state-run Turkish university participated in the study. The validity and reliability of the scale items prepared by the researchers were in...
