This study investigated student’s use of different social media tools, their perceptions and attitudes towards these tools, their preference of social media for instructional purpose, and acceptance of social media among, pre-service teachers in Nigeria and Rwanda. This study adopted a comparative survey design, and Nigeria and Rwanda were chosen as sample region through purposive sampling. The population of the study included 487 higher education students of the faculty of education; 246 of them were Nigerians and 241 were Rwandese. They comprised of 212 male and 267 females. The findings of the study revealed that pre-service teachers in both countries have adequate knowledge of different type of social media sites. The findings show that the level of preference of social media site is very high in both countries among the pre-service teachers. Pre-service teachers in both countries are willing to use social media technology to support learning. Pre-service teachers in both countries have a positive attitude towards the use of social media for instruction purposes p<0.05). Also, Facebook was discovered to be the most popular social networking site among them followed by Twitter and Google+. Rwandese pre-service teachers used Skype more than their counterparts in Nigeria. Based on these findings recommendations were made that establishment of educational technology units in the faculties of education in Rwanda, also curricular underlying teacher educational programs should ensure that these knowledge and beliefs are emphasized when designing educational technology courses as well as modifying the content the courses so that student teachers have greater engagement in technology. Nigeria still has a lot to explore in the use of social media for instruction purpose therefore further in-depth studies should be carried out.

Assessing Pre-Service Teachers' Perceptions of the Practicality of Social Media in the Educational Arena2023 •
This study determines the extent of the usefulness of social media to pre-service teachers at Baguio Central University. It elaborates on social media's various applications and benefits in their training. This study utilized a descriptive quantitative design and a survey for data collection. Through the total enumeration sampling method, 45 pre-service teachers enrolled at the College of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts were the respondents of this study. The study investigated how pre-service teachers perceive the usefulness of social media during their career training. The results revealed that Facebook Messenger, Facebook, and YouTube were the commonly used social media platforms. The time spent on social media was 3-4 hours daily. Moreover, pre-service teachers find social media moderately useful in entertainment, academics, socialization, and information, indicating an increase in the use of social media during their training for personal and professional development. The results indicate that pre-service teachers find social media beneficial for social and educational purposes. Overall, the results suggest that all participants utilized social media to improve training, the quality of lesson delivery, and access to instructional learning materials. This research benefits all preservice teachers working in their respective fields of study.

Adoption and Use of Social Media for Teaching and Learning in Two Universities in North Central Nigeria2020 •
This study investigates the use of social media for teaching and learning among the lecturers and students at the University of Ilorin and Al-Hikmah University in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. The study was aimed at examining the adoption of social media for teaching and learning among lecturers and students' respectively. A total of 430 respondents comprising of both lecturers and students were analyzed using frequency counts and simple percentages. The findings from the study revealed that social media can be adopted and used for lessons. Also, lecturers and students assent that social media can be used to achieve better results if integrated into lessons. However, the results showed that WhatsApp is the most used and most reliable tool for teaching and learning by lecturers and students of the University of Ilorin and Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin. It is thereby recommended that apart from WhatsApp, the lecturers and students of the University of Ilorin, Al-Hikmah University, and other institutions are requested to adopt other social media such as Google+, Skype and YouTube as an educational tool to facilitate the teaching and learning process to achieve better results in their academics.

The study investigated fifteen social media platforms relevant to teaching-learning process. The participants were 330 undergraduate in the Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. The research instrument for data collection was a questionnaire and Focus Group Discussion Guide (FGDG). The findings revealed that teacher trainees were highly aware of social media useful in teaching-learning process.Whatsapp was the most utilized, followed by Facebook, Wikipedia, Google+, Tube, Ask.com, Instagram, Twitter, Slideshare, WordPress, Viber, Del.iccio.us, Printrest and Flickr. Male and female did not differ in the extent of utilization of these social media. Barriers militating against effective use of social media are finance, poor network services, lack of smartphone, erratic power supply, distraction, technical knowhow on the part of students, and lack of encouragement. The study recommended that Faculty Management should ensure that teacher trainees have access to free Wi-Fi to access internet. Social network sites' rapid development has attracted thousands of users, and helped users connect with people in life. Use of Social Media Among the Students in Secondary Schools in TanzaniaThis study examined the Use of Social Media among the Students in Tanzania. Descriptive statistics and content analysis were used to analyze data. As regard factors triggering use of social media, the findings showed social media is significantly influenced by online learning. It provides an exciting learning platform where students can access academic content such as easy to access audiovisual materials and enhance learning though only a few students have a good balance between social media time and doing other school work. As regard the challenges of using social media, cyber-bullying, exposure to unsuitable digital contents, sleep deprivation, devoting lesser time in studies and online dating due to chatting with unknown adult strangers that lead to sexual solicitation from them were prevalent. Based on the findings it can be concluded that there is increased use of social media among secondary school students. Both negative and positive effects of social media use among students were revealed. The common perception on social media use among students has been negative. This study revealed some positive ways of using social media to enhance learning including accessing educational content. Social media use cannot be fully accepted without critique. This makes it necessary for students to be guided on how to use it appropriately. On the basis of the findings and conclusions of the study, the following recommendations can be made: Teachers, parents and police should teach young Internet users Internet safety advice on how to perceive and avoid potentially predatory communications and relationships with adults. They should also teach them how to use the internet safely and not chatting to strangers online.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the current use of social media and its benefits in teaching and learning as well as the perception of barriers by Sudanese university faculty members. The study surveyed a sample of 65faculty members (educators and non-educators) through the use of a questionnaire. The results indicate that educators, both male and female, across academic ranks are using social media tools and agree to the benefits and barriers of social media usage. Also, the study found that there was a significant difference in the scores for educator and non-educator faculty members regarding social media usage in teaching, with the former demonstrating greater use. Moreover, the results found no significant effect of age and rank on faculty members’ use of social media in teaching. Therefore, the study recommends that future research on usage purposes of social media sites in teaching could be extended to include a wider demographic base to further explore the extent to which the findings are generalizable. The study provides valuable information that may help administrators, professors, and decision makers to recognize the extent to which university faculty members’ use social media in teaching.

PERCEPTION OF TEACHERS IN THE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN TEACHING TECHNICAL SUBJECTS IN TECHNICAL COLLEGES IN ENUGU STATE2019 •
Abstract: This study was conducted to determine the perception of teachers in the use of social media in teaching technical subjects in technical colleges in Enugu State. Two research questions and two corresponding null hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design with the population of 44 respondents (33 male and 11 female teachers) sampled purposively from four technical colleges (T.C Ihe Achi, C.T.C Ahani Achi, GTC Enugu and C.C.T.C Ngwo) out of 29 technical colleges in Enugu State. The instrument for data collection was a structured 21-item statement questionnaire developed by the researcher sectioned A & B. The instrument was validated by three research experts while the reliability index of 0.79 was obtained using Cronbach’s Alpha reliability estimate formula. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the two research questions while the null hypotheses were tested using t-test statistics at .05 level of significance and appropriate degree of freedom. The result of the analyses showed that; integration of social media into the curriculum of technical colleges would have a long term benefit as it triggers interest of students, allow assignment setting, provide access to quality educational materials and others. On this note, it was therefore recommended that Social media should be incorporated into the curriculum of technical colleges for effective teaching and learning as it is perceived very highly influential by the respondents.
Modern education has now become student centered and our students are no more confined to the four walls of traditional classroom. Mobile technology and the web 2.0 have made today’s education synonymous with anywhere, anyplace, anytime learning coupled with the growing interest of social media in all spheres of our lives which higher institutions can tap into these emerging technologies to support and improve teaching and learning. The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of social media technologies in teaching and learning at higher institutions of education. A blended approach was adopted as a research methodology with the use of survey questionnaires and interviews to gather data. The result of the study confirmed the researcher’s theory that social media is a very powerful educational tool that can be harness to improve teaching and learning in developing countries. It further revealed that students were using these technologies in learning and wanted authorities’ to incorporate these social media technologies into their teaching and learning. Participants showed a very high positive perceptions, readiness and strong attitude of adopting and integrating SNS in their education to benefits from these technologies which they strongly believed outweigh the draw backs. The study concluded that social media is a viable educational tool for anytime, anywhere, anyplace mobile learners and needs greater attention from stakeholders in the educational sector.

The Use of Social-Media and IT Application Tools for Teaching in Ghanaian Universities: Case of University of Cape Coast, GhanaThe use of social media and IT application tools as an alternative pedagogical approach in higher educational institutions of learning cannot be compromised. Considering their incalculable advantages especially, in these times of the COVID-19 pandemic where closure of schools characterised some of the mitigating factors which wedged pedagogy. Nonetheless, quite a few institutions have taken advantage of these technologically inclined resources to facilitate teaching and learning. Therefore, this study explores the perceived usage of social media outlets and IT application tools in the University of Cape Coast (UCC) as a means of pedagogy by the Academic Staff.
