The purpose of this study is to find out recreational tendencies of university students, the factors which prevent them from participating in recreational activities and whether these factors differ according to some variables. 200 students, 96 males and 104 females, studying in three different faculties (faculty of theology, faculty of education and faculty of sport sciences) of Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University during 2016-2017 Academic Year participated in the study voluntarily. Leisure Constraints Scale was used as data collection tool. SPSS 22.0 was used in the statistical analysis of our data. Factor analysis was conducted on the data obtained, followed by Anova Test, Kruskal Wallis Test, Mann-Whitney-U test and T Test according to the data set. When the results of our study were examined, no statistically significant difference was found between age groups in terms of lack of access and friends, lack of information, lack of time and lack of facility, and between genders in terms of lack of facility, lack of time, individual psychology and lack of information (p>0.05). Statistically significant difference was found between faculties in terms of lack of knowledge and individual psychology, between genders in terms of access and lack of friends (p<0.05). As a conclusion, it can be seen that there are differences between students studying in different faculties in terms of lack of knowledge about recreational activities, problems in finding facilities and individual psychology.
The objective of this study is to examine recreation levels of university students with regard to various variables.503 university students in total including 248 girls and 255 boys receiving education in various faculties and graduate schools of Karamanoglu Mehmet Bey University, Inonu University, Gazi University and 19 Mayis University constitute the research group. The questionnaire developed by researcher was employed to achieve study objective.Significance was extracted P<0.05 by employing Chi-Square test (2X2) in solution and interpretation of data. SPSS (Statistical package for social sciences) package software was used in assessment of data and finding the calculated values. It was inferred as a result of this study that male students in comparison with female students and students receiving education in the faculty of education in comparison with the ones, who receive education in other departments, enjoy participating in social activities, improve their personal skill and capabilities by participating in social activities, participate in sportive activities, consider attending socio-cultural activities important and are more active in terms of cultural activity. These outcomes demonstrate that individuals freely take part in recreative activities.

Effects of Recreational Activity on Leisure Barriers between Students2018 •
The aim of this research is to determine the factors that may prevent high school students from participating in recreational activities and to investigate whether these factors differ within the scope of various variables. This study consisted of total 1459 (681 women and 778 men) student volunteers who educated in high school level. Sampling method was preferred for easy sampling. The face-to-face survey method was used to collect the data. The "Leisure Constraints Scale" developed by Alexandris and Carroll (1997) and adapted to Turkish by Gürbüz and Karaküçük (2008) was used to determine the factors that might prevent individuals from participating in leisure activities. The data obtained for the research were first transferred to the computer and then analyzed by SPSS packet program. The error margin level in the study was taken as p < 0.05. The cronbach alpha of the study was found to be 0.91. As a result, it was found that women particip...

This study consisted of 1459 (681 women and 778 men) student volunteers who are educated to high school level. The easy sampling method was preferred in the present study. The face-to-face survey method was used to collect the data. The “Leisure Constraints Scale” developed by Alexandris and Carroll (1997) and adapted to Turkish by Gürbüz, Öncü, and Emir (2012) was used to determine the factors that might prevent individuals from participating in leisure activities. The data obtained for the research were first transferred to a computer and then analyzed by the SPSS program. The error margin level in the study was taken as p < 0.05. The Cronbach alpha of the study was found to be 0.91. As a result, it was found that women participated in leisure activities more than men. It was also observed that the participants met with more leisure constraints in Turkey’s eastern regions.

Research about leisure and its meanings from cultural perspectives is receiving more and more attention. The purpose of this study is to explore the meanings of leisure and preferred recreational activities among Turkish students. A sample of 691 university students completed a survey about leisure meanings and preferred recreational activities. As a new concept in Turkey, leisure is found to be associated most with subscales related to work, perceived competence, social interaction, and perceived freedom. Particular activities are also associated with specific meanings subscales. Individuals participating in sports, social activities, and outdoor recreation are more likely to see perceived competence as important. Opportunities for active and passive activities are associated most often with sports, outdoor, cultural arts, and tourism activities. Results suggest that although broad meanings of leisure are important, specific activities may make the meanings more salient in a cultur...

This study was conducted to develop a valid and reliable data collection tool to determine to what extent university students have an awareness of the gains of the recreational activities they engage in. In the study, following the literature review, a questionnaire of 55 items was devised. Following expert opinions, it was decided for the data collection tool to have 45 items. As a result of the pilot study that was carried out, the implicit structure of the data collection tool which was reduced to 44 items following the exclusion of a question with low-factor load (.288) was made by explanatory factor analysis (EFA). According to the result of the analysis, a structure with 41 items and 3 factors was shaped which explains 43.327% of the total variance. Related literature was examined and the sub-dimensions that were found were named as follows: first dimension, Pleasure/Fun 1─10 (α=.885), second dimension, Social/Success 11─28 (α=.905), third dimension, Self-improvement 29─41 (α=.884). The verification of the implicit structure that was shaped was tested through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Analysis results have shown that the fit indices of the structure of 41 items and 3 factors are good. The reliability of the data collection tool was tested by internal consistency (α=.948) and the split-half reliability analyses. The results demonstrate a valid and reliable instrument.

AN EXAMINATION OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ ATTITUDES TOWARDS LEISURE ACTIVITIESThe aim of this study was to examine the university students’ attitudes towards leisure activities and to compare the participants' attitudes levels according to different variables. In total, 259 (Nfemale= 146; age=22.31, SD=2.80, Nmale =113; age=21.20, SD=2.21) university students that study in different universities in the Central Anatolia region participated in this study. “Leisure Attitudes Scale” (LAS) developed by Ragheb and Beard (1982) and adapted to Turkish by Akgül and Gürbüz (2010) was used in the study. The attitudes of the participants towards the leisure time activities are evaluated by the Likert type scale over 5. LAS is made up of 36 articles and 3 sub-dimensions such as cognitive (12), affective (12), and behavioral (12). In order to determine whether the attitude scores of the participants vary depending on the independent variables, t-test and MANOVA were used for independent groups in the analysis of the data. In the light of the findings of the study significant differences were detected in the attitude scores of the participants according to their sex and ages (p<.05). The scores of attitudes of the women and the participants between ages 18-22 are more on the positive side towards the leisure activities compared to the rest of the participants. Moreover, according to the results of the analysis, the attitudes of the individuals who take part in the physical activities are more positive than the one who do not. Overall, highest attitude scores of the participants towards leisure activities are on the cognitive aspect.
