As is known, reading is a skill the individual faces throughout his/her life. Reading, which is also one of the four basic language skills, allows an individual to establish a connection with life. So that, self-improvement of the individual, the process of understanding and interpreting what is happening around him/her, expressing himself/herself and communicating with others, achieving success in education process, and living-conveying the culture earn success with correct acquisition and continuity of this skill. Individuals, who read and define themselves and their environment correctly, succeed also in understanding and transferring process of cultural structures. Each individual adopts the culture and value structure of the society where he/she lives. For this reason, it is important for individuals to understand some local and universal values correctly and to exhibit correct behaviors in this process. To do this, education about some value concepts are given to the secondary school students by the National Education. The population of the study consisted of 7th-grade students studying in two secondary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. While one group was the experimental group, the other one was the control group. While a values education supported with reading materials was given in one of these schools, a values education without any intervention of the teacher in the process was given at the other school. At the end of the specified period, the students in both groups were asked to write a story containing the values they learned. The first three successful students were rewarded. The data were assessed by making document analysis. Students’ skills to apply story-writing rules correctly and express the values they learn as well as their skills to understand and interpret correctly were examined here. As a result of the study, it was observed that the students who were given the values education wrote more successful stories than the other group.

Values Education in Turkish Textbooks in Primary EducationTexts are indispensable tools used in a language teaching environment. They help students learn both implicitly and explicitly. This learning activity guides the future of the student. The individualization processes of memories that are combined together with qualified texts would be shorter and more qualified. There are many affective approaches and cognitive approaches in curriculum because raising individuals with adopted basic human values is a universal phenomenon that takes place in all the education programs. In today's teaching processes, along with data mining, opinion mining is also included in educational processes. Equipping the input in students' memories with positive poles (the literature used polar), in terms of value load, will directly lead to the observation of the positive affective behaviours in students. The learning outcomes under the title of education values in native language programs are basically a product of value load mining. This paper focuses on classifying the value loads of the words in the reading texts in the primary education of 7th and 8th grade Turkish textbooks as positive/neutral/negative. The study also attempts to determine the positive/neutral/negative value loads that the textbooks try to convey to the students. This study is a qualitative study and is structured with a document review method. Rapid Miner and MS Excel programs were used to acquire data, which was described in the context of value load that is transferred. With the results obtained, it can be concluded that, at the word level, the textbooks try to convey positive and negative values that are approximately the same ratio without using a certain systematic approach that would consider adjusting the text content for the grade levels.

This mixed methods pilot study investigated the impact of values education on Year Seven students in three Christian K-12 schools in Australia. Participants were surveyed to determine their knowledge, understanding, and internalisation of the Nine Core Values for Australian Schooling. Further, random selections of students from two schools participated in three focus groups that discussed scenarios describing value-laden interactions. The study found that Year Seven students had a varied knowledge and understanding of the Nine Core Values for Australian Schooling that appeared independent of background variables. The study also found that the participants generally had sound levels of internalisation of values, but that the levels of internalisation among girls exceeded that among boys. Further, the study found no relationship between the knowledge of values and the internalisation of values.

Trends in Values and Character Education Researches in Turkey2017 •
The purpose of this research is to reveal the current status of studies on character and values education, which have been published in Turkey between 2000-2016. Within the context of this study, 272 articles that have been indexed in both The Turkish Academic Network and Information Center (ULAKBIM) and Academia Social Science Index databases and 122 dissertations which have been listed in Council of Higher Education were reviewed using content analysis by using "Article/Dissertation Classification Form" based on the following grouping criteria; i.e., publication year, author number, research design, research topic, research aim, data collection tools and data analysis program. The results indicate that the number of master's thesis are predominantly higher than the number of PhD dissertations and the researches done in the department of Elementary Education ranks first. The majority of papers were published at international peer-reviewed journals and most of them were written by either one or two authors. It is seen that studies conducted on character and values education in Turkey date back to nearly ten years, and have been increasing in number. It can be said that according to their aims; measuring perceptions, attitudes and opinions which have the highest percentage and the most frequently studied research topic is character and values education. Regarding the research methods; more than half of the research studies employed qualitative approach, whereas the most favored research design has been the document analysis. Thus, the most frequently used data collection tools are documents and regarding the sample groups studied the most common subjects are course books and literary texts. The results of the analysis, in fact, convey the message of suggestion for the researchers and academicians working in this field.
Values are significant conceptions that affect human life. The notion of values as one of the issues social sciences deals with is known to be a part of axiology, a sub-branch of philosophy. In this regard, values known as an individual's life form begin to constitute a significant part of our life beginning from the early childhood years. At such a point, how these values are transferred to children beginning with the period before puberty is quite significant. Therefore, the present study aims to explore elementary school teachers' perspectives of values education during ages of 6-12. A qualitative research tool that is composed of semi-structured items was used in the study. Content analysis was carried out to analyze the written responses to open-ended items. The findings of the study indicated that the teachers used the concepts of love, respect, tolerance, justice and peace as value symbols when defining universal values; there was a parallelism between the universal values they defined and what they attempted to teach learners in the lessons, and they made more observations in practices of values education to determine value acquisition. In this regard, various recommendations are made such as paying attention to the application of the concepts that moved into the living space for value internalization, establishing coordination with parents and ensuring the retention of the acquired values by presenting multimedia environments to speed up value acquisition.
