This study examined leadership styles and staff performance in sports organizations. Five hundred and thirty two management staff were purposively selected from five states Sports Councils. The Management Staff Response Questionnaire MSRQ was administered to measure the level of performance of staff of the councils, identify the leadership styles in operation and the extent to which leadership styles enhanced performance of the staff of the councils. The leadership styles most often used by leaders of the councils were autocratic, democratic and pseudo-democratic. The finding also revealed that, there was a high level of job performance of Sports Councils staff of Southeastern Nigeria and that leadership styles significantly influenced the job performance of staff. The study concluded that among the several organizational factors which could enhance job performance of Sports Council workers, the style employed by the leader of the Sports Council most of the time play a significant role.
The research employs descriptive survey design of correlation type which is very important as the study tries to find out the relationship between leadership styles of sports administrators and organization performance in Ilorin. Populations for the study are 62 sports personnel in the sports council Ilorin which comprised of Director of Sports, Stadium manager, organizing secretaries and coaches of the existing 20 sports in the Kwara State Sports Council. Researcher questionnaire designed in a modified four points likert rating scale was used to collect data from the respondents which was validated by a Professor of sports management and a season sports administrator, ministry of youth and sports, Abuja and tested for reliability using split half method and Cronbach alpha was used to determine the result with a coefficient of 0.80 obtained. This study assessed coaching leadership behaviour preference by athletes in individual and team sports that will lead to increased satisfaction and performance. The Ex-post facto research design was employed since the design is based on existing information which could be manipulated. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data for this study. A total of nine hundred and sixty (960) copies of questionnaire was distributed to athletes in selected States Sports Councils using the simple random sampling procedure. The data collected were subjected to statistical analysis using frequency and percentages for the demographic characteristics of the respondents. Socio-Cultural Determinants of Administrative Leadership Failure of Sports Organization in Imo State Sports Council.2017 •
Abstract This study examined socio-cultural determinants of administrative leadership failure of sports organization in Imo state sport council. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study and research hypotheses were generated and tasted. Two hundred and five (205) athletes, comprising only male were selected through multi-stage sampling technique from the Imo state sport council. The main research instrument used was self developed questionnaire. The reliability of the instrument was established through test-retest method. The descriptive statistics of percentages were utilized to analyze the demographic data. Mean was used to analyze data concerning research questions, while inferential statistics of simple linear regression was employed to test the hypotheses at .05 alpha level. The findings showed that there are significant relationship between leadership style, coaches, sport facilities, and equipment, funding, motivation, gender, belief and religion. The findings showed that the independent variables were significantly with the dependent variables. The results also showed the relative effects of the independent variables on the variance of the dependent variable; leadership style, (18.3%) availability of coaches, (20.1%) sports facilities, (55.9%) and funding (50.7%). It was also revealed that all the independent variables could determine the dependents. From the findings, it was concluded that athletes participation in sports organization was encouraged by all the independent variables. Based on the findings, it was recommended that if the government should provide adequate fund for effective sport administration in Imo state sports council. Stimulating sports facilities should be provided and made accessible to motivate and sustain interest in sport participation. The shared belief and values of other religious background should be considered to enable athletes participation in sports. The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of coaches-leadership styles on athletes' performance. A sample of athlete participants (n=55) from Defense athletics clubs of Addis Ababa was used using the convenience sampling technique. The Influence of Leadership Styles on Work Performance Among Staff of Federal University Wukari, Taraba State, Nigeria2017 •
The study examine the influence of leadership styles on work performance of Staff of Federal University Wukari, in Taraba State, Nigeria. Three hundred and ten (310) participants, comprising 205 (66.1%) senior and 94 (30.3%) junior Staff, male 173 (55.8%) and females 137 (44.2%) was sample and randomly drawn from the population of 1,384. Ages ranged from 18 to 66 years. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested using standard multiple regression to test the independent and joint influenced on work performance. The result show that, democratic leadership style positively influence performance while autocratic leadership style shows a negative influence on work performance, democratic and autocratic leadership styles jointly have significance influence on work performance. Based on the finding of the study, it therefore recommend that universities management should encourage democratic style of leadership at all level of leadership in other to enhance high work performance among staff and create room for innovation, sense of belongingness and team work among staff. Institutions should discourage wrong application of autocratic leadership style if high performance of staff must be realised. And finally, leaders should know the ideal situation to combine autocratic leadership attribute with democratic style in other to maintain high work performance of staff.
Every organization is set up with the expectations of effective and efficient performance, growth in terms of increase in productivity, revenue generation, profit maximization, customer's satisfaction and increase employees' performance. The extent to which this performance and growth objectives are achieved is mostly determined by the type of leadership style used in the organization which accounts for its efficiency and effectiveness. This study was carried out to look at the extent to which this trend has continued and specially, the relationship between leadership style and employee performance in an organization. This study was conducted in Federal Capital Territory Abuja with the use of questionnaire and interview to gather relevant data that was statistically analyzed using Correlation analysis with the help of SPSS , the findings shows that there is a significant relationship between leadership style and performance in an organization, This study has observed that leaders and leadership style in organizations have affected the ability of their organizations to achieve corporate goals and objectives. The study concluded and recommends that efficiency is a function of perceived reward. Good motivation is critical for achieving organizational objectives. Therefore, recognizing worker's needs is an essential step to planning and motivational effort. Hence, every action taken by a leader stimulates a reaction in the employees. Therefore, the attainment of the objectives of most business organization would be borne out of the fact that leadership recognizes the needs of the workers, employ appropriate motivational tool such as promotion of staff based on merit and relevant skill. Also provision of suitable working environment and employ an appropriate leadership style that will encourage free flow of information among leaders and employees as this will lead to good organization and employee performance.
The leadership style scale developed by Simon Oates (2011) was adopted and 84 usable response obtained. The predictor variable was Leadership Style [Democratic, Autocratic and laissez faire] and the criterion variable was firm's performance. Crobach alpha > 0.9 using one way Anova etc. It was found that managers with democratic inclinations account for more variance in performance than autocratic and laissez faire. The implication of this and the result obtained are discussed in terms of national and individual interest and possible desirable changes.

The study examined the effect of leadership styles on the performance of the employees in Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria. Simple Random Sampling technique was adopted in selecting a total of two hundred and sixty (260) respondents as sample for the study, while relevant data was gathered with the aid of a structured questionnaire. Four hypotheses were formulated, descriptive and inferential statistical tools were used to analyze the data. The descriptive statistics of simple percentage, mean, and standard deviation was used to meaningfully describe the data collected for the study while the inferential statistics of logit regression was used to achieve the objectives of the study and test the hypotheses formulated for the study. Findings showed positive and negative correlation between leadership style dimensions and organizational performance. It was also found that leadership style dimensions jointly predict organizational performance, which counted for 23% variance of performance. The study concluded that transformational and democratic leadership style should be employed by the Banks' management in order to wax stronger in a global competitive environment.
The emphasis is on how organizations, agencies, parastatals, industries, and countries can get effective leadership style to achieve set goals. There are vacuum of true conscious leaders, whether in politics, religion, organization, business, education, sports or institutions. There is desperate need of competent, principle, sensitive, compassionate and conscious leaders. In this research emphasis will be placed on the need to know what makes a leader and what makes a follower. What are the dualities that distinguish leaders from followers'?, the various styles of leadership and how sets goals can be achieved. This research is about the missing link in leadership styles, with impact on the performance of the follower or employee of an organization with FOCUS on Nigeria organisation.
